Hot water system repairs

What are the signs that your hot water unit may need fixing? If you are having a few, infrequent issues with your system it may need to hot water repairs by one of our licensed plumbers.  These issues can include, but are not limited to :

  • Lack of hot water.
  • Water is leaking.
  • Unpleasant smell and taste.
  • Water isn’t hot enough.
  • Frequent change in water temperature
  • Continuous loud noise.
  • Colour of water that is coming out of the faucet or shower isn’t clear.
  • Larger than normal water bill without logical reason.
  • Age of the hot water system.

If you are aware of the age of your hot water system and it is approaching the end of its service life, you may want to consider replacing it before it starts becoming a major inconvenience. For example, it often occurs that a hot water system works perfectly and, just before its due to expire, it gives a major leak (which is more like a flood!). If this happens, you may experience expensive repairs from water damage, in addition to the cost of replacing the device itself.

However, if the above issues are consistently occurring it may be time to consider a replacement system and Ryan Old Plumbing are happy to discuss this with you.

Signs that your hot water system may need replacing

In general, hot water units have a lifespan of 8 - 12 years. If that time is getting near, be sure to keep an eye out for changes in the colour or smell of your water, as well as the water temperature, to determine if you need a hot water system replacement. At some point, it is better to just replace it than to repair it.

Should I get my hot water system regularly serviced?

Yes, everyone who has a hot water system should have their system regularly maintained by an appropriately qualified plumber. This ensures the system continues to run well and lasts longer, meaning less hassle for you in the long term. However, if you have not been seeing to regular maintenance of your hot water system, you can anticipate the hot water unit to start giving you a lot of problems and may fail before its expected end of service life.
